Design First Policy for India

We envisaged and hosted the Design First India forum, as a platform to drive policy changes towards the adoption of a design-first approach for India across institutions, industries and society. We were privileged to host Mr Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog as the keynote speaker for this pivotal event that would contribute to India’s growth story.

Creative Collective of India

Lopez Design was one of the driving forces behind CCI, a social initiative launched to create awareness about COVID-19 with the intent to bring behavioural change. The initiative was begun by thought leaders belonging to design, marketing, advertising and social sectors. We developed a digital toolkit and portal to guide all designers and communicators in making, verifying and publishing material that enables positive behaviour within the larger community in the battle against Covid-19.

Nirbhaya Case Study

We launched the campaign Nirbhaya-Keeping it alive in the aftermath of the tragic rape and assault of a medical intern on a bus in December 2012, which shook the collective conscience of India. We aimed to rally public support and engagement by designing a memorable Nirbhaya ‘mark’ which we encouraged people to display in public places in remembrance of the incident. The signs were made in various languages as permanent metal markers to create awareness about the issues of sexual violence against women.

The Big Shit Project

Lopez Design, steered by Anthony Lopez, conceptualized the Big Shit Project in 2013, a massive collaborative effort to bring awareness and social change about public defecation, a huge problem across India. To tackle the practice of open defecation, the designers came up with communication strategies that brought influential members of society together in large public spaces. We created graphic icons and markers to identify with the problem opening up spaces for dialogues and possible solutions. A Facebook page was also set up, garnering support from over 1000 members.
