RE-ROUTE
Dear Readers,
Indians are reputed for asking people along the way for directions to get to our destination. With Google Maps and navigation systems, we are now transitioning to wayfinding with apps and digital systems. Even with hefty virtual aids, the physical orientation within a space is prime for any user — ’the street next to the temple’ and ‘the house after the paanwala’ is very much part of our navigating story.
We were privileged to do the wayfinding for Central Vista where the signage assists you in finding various amenities and pathways, as well as brings great symbolic significance to an avenue that is the pride of India. The signage is there when you need it and does not interfere with your experience of the place. In this issue RE-ROUTE, read about our humble yet crucial involvement for Kartavya Path in the article Wayfinding and Signage Design for India’s grandest public space. An important challenge we addressed was creating a universal and humanistic Gender Neutral symbol for public spaces. We introduce In a 100 Words, a column by Anthony Lopez — this time, you get his views on Design for Public Good.
Wishing you a very Happy Diwali — light, joy and good fortune!
