A dynamic communication system for an emerging design institution in India.
Indian Institute of Art & Design (IIAD), affiliated with the Kingston School of Art, UK is a revolutionary learning space that nurtures, explorers, experimenters, and innovators with a global outlook through a design program emerging in India.
IIAD sought a new individualistic communication strategy design that reflected the institution’s commitment to unparalleled design education and a global outlook through a design program emerging from India. The institution wanted a visual language and content strategy which seamlessly integrated with online and offline collateral.
Bridging Gaps, Building Bridges
IIAD was repositioned uniquely as a design institute that stands apart for its emphasis on processes, linkages, connections, and individual growth where success connects the ‘I’ with ‘Everyone’. The institute heavily focuses on how change needs to come from within before we change the world, placing its core focus on individual development and building relationships amongst the community.

IIAD’s vision is to focus on the evolving process of learning, building relationships, and enabling independent learners to learn to work collaboratively to solve problems for a better future.
Reshaping Design Education
IIAD sets out to revolutionize how design is taught, learned, and practiced in India. By focusing on helping individuals find their voice, core strengths, and passion, the institution aims to prepare the champions for tomorrow who know how to learn and grow in the contemporary society and design industry.
IIAD’s New Look
The new visual system was based on the institute’s ‘Bridging Gaps, Building Bridges’ philosophy. Build up from the square logo, the consistent grid was developed with the square logo as its basic unit along with various other shapes. Aimed to make the future designer’s journey more personalized and dynamic, the new visual system was made out of the main grid, high-contrast color blocking, and agile typography. This system was followed across the institute’s online and offline mediums and collaterals to make a design aspirant’s journey more youthful and energetic.
Amplified Content System
IIAD’s new communication system was shaped from the philosophy of powerful connections driven to employ growth, exploration of ideas, and empowering future designers to work towards their goals. This focus on inquiry-based and expansive learning inspired the concept of having a ‘plus’ icon or ‘know more’ call to action throughout the new website. These allowed the user to keep learning and looking for more information without laying out all the information together at once.
Pi Designers
The concept of Pi Designers grew out of the motivation to build a community of next-generation designers. Similar to the value of Pi, IIAD’s graduates are infinitely growing. They will stay reliable lifelong partners who are constantly growing and transforming the world of design into a community of innovative leaders.
