"It gives me immense pleasure to write a small letter of appreciation and gratitude to Lopez design under the leadership of Anthony. I will never forget my shock when I landed in Nepal country office. I thought I was in a warehouse: worn carpets, shabby furniture, cluttered office arrangements, dim lighting.
An office that hadn’t been touched or refurbished in 15 years. I recall I used to fear staying up late in the office, with all the dark corners and angry shades. And then came the dawn of a new day when I was introduced to Anthony Lopez by my regional director and within months, the warehouse was simply touched by magic. The magic of mixing the magnificent heritage with the new modern trendy style. Walls, partitions pulled down, giving way to a massive open bright space, the installation of led light, double glazed partition gave way to a feeling of immense space. Modern tech furniture, ergonomic chairs replaced the old bulky dark furniture giving the feeling that an ultra modern office landed from the top executive office from Scandinavia to Kathmandu. Yet being in a heritage building, this ultra modernity was then warmly brushed with colors reflecting the culture and landscape of the region, weaving seamlessly into the corporate environment to make connections with people and place.
The walls were covered by huge pictures of magnificent sceneries of the Himalayas, and the partitions and walls were touched by the different colors of the traditional Nepali fabric all done in natural rhythms, infusing the warmth and color of Nepal into workspaces with a vibrant touch.
Open places for informal meetings were introduced and a well-functioning ultra-modern meeting room was created. It was just magnificent.
Moving to Syria and being challenged to find a suitable place to accommodate over 200 staff in the limited available safe areas, and being confronted by expensive, yet less than optimum proposals to transform buildings into working stations, I resorted once again to Anthony jokingly. He once again didn’t let me down. Long before virtual business became the norm, Anthony suggested video taping the building and the floors and he designed the spaces, remotely, in a holistic style, looking at both environment and graphics.
One again dark and gloomy spaces were transformed with Comfortable furniture, ambient lighting, ethnic rugs and wall graphics effectively transforming this normal residential building into an open, bright, and colorful office accommodating over 200 staff without the sense of overcrowding. All done in a very cost effective way. The brightness and the colors created an uplifting environment to staff who are normally under tremendous pressure. The staff called it “the oasis“.
He bravely insisted to come check the works himself knowing the danger of such a mission but wanted to pay tribute to the UNICEF staff working under such conditions. Anthony and his team's sense of commitment, enthusiasm, belief to their work is simply far beyond the call of duty.
