The End Of Violence Report
Securing millions of children across the world.
Know Violence in Childhood, an independent global learning initiative required a print communication design for its branded collateral. We developed a tactile communication system bridging art, design, and craft for its Global Report of 2017, executive summary, policy briefs, media kit, website, and other communication templates.
Throughout this report, images of a sweater being knitted emphasized the need to nurture and protect the children. The sweat concept’s humanistic approach illustrated a reversal of the heartbreaking scenario and suggested how to tackle issues of childhood violence.
A Symbolic Story
The design brief specifically addressed the existing global concerns and the misconceptions about the perpetration of violence, its consequences on children, including the damaging psychological impact. Children are unable to defend themselves or report their problems. In conclusion, the global report advocates a holistic effort by –
a) changing the culture of violence
b) addressing specific contexts
c) instituting pillars of action
Impactful Design
The communication design had to be impactful with a positive and empowering visual language. Primarily, these are tools for awareness and advocacy. The systems design required a clear hierarchy, easily comprehensible and allowing the reader to navigate efficiently. The documents needed to be accessible resources presenting credible and reliable evidence. The online version required interactive elements wherever possible.
Textile & Illustrations
The “Ending Violence in Childhood” illustrates a symbolic series of images weaving the various chapters together. The final illustrations were a collaborative effort between Lopez Design and artist Sarah Naqvi. A textile artist from NID, Naqvi is ardent about issues of feminism and supports disadvantaged voices. The artworks engage her strong stance in a nuanced manner, propelled through design.
Naqvi’s illustrations of a child’s sweater are knitted from start to completion, emphasize the need to embrace children in stronger and carefully interwoven strategies for violence prevention.
The initiative’s visual imagery is a gripping metaphor for binding the argument together. The cover design for the reports highlights the use of fabric as the background while the detailed infographics resonated with a holistic graphical language.
