We worked on an environment branding and signage design system for the Headstrong offices by focusing on positive workspaces, icons, and symbols.
What binds people of different cultures, places, and backgrounds?
Headstrong, a global company with offices in Europe, North America, the Philippines, Asia Pacific, and India, wanted their workspaces redesigned. Through environment branding, we had to reflect Headstrong’s value system, which meant strategically capturing the ethos of the global organization. The spaces should promote a positive and iconic work ethos, easily relatable to their employees worldwide using imagery and symbols which would cross the boundaries of culture and language.
How can company values be translated into imagery?
We connected ‘Headstrong’ to the meaning of a strong mind to celebrate the company ethos as ‘the Empire of the Mind.’ This approach led us to create an iconic set of symbols such as The Superman – the symbol of a super-human, The Sumo Wrestler – the physical challenger, and The Yogi – the spiritual quotient.
We explored the brilliance of the human brain and its multifaceted capacity using symbolic expressions. Light-hearted graphics were embedded with deeper meanings to engage people in conversations and create empathetic connections. The company values of openness, teamwork, leadership, and excellence were brought out in motion graphics, wayfinding signage systems, poster schemes, room graphics, and super graphics to create a highly charged work atmosphere.
The room signage played on aspects of human nature and activities. For instance, “Meet Talk Elevate” for meeting rooms, designed with three human figures, emphasized the need for dialogue. The title “Super PM” depicted the Project Manager. Headstrong’s poster scheme was created to motivate people to pause, introspect and connect with intangible values. Graphics in black were superimposed on a mirror surface, so people could see their reflection while simultaneously reading lines like “Stop Look Think” and “The Essential is the Invisible.”
We designed the Room Graphics to energize the space with visuals that relieved the monotony of the interior. These were paired with large-scale wall graphics termed Super Graphics which further added to the workspace environment.
Mind and matter
We went beyond conventional design systems to merge revolutionary thinking to design branded workspaces for Headstrong. Our designs mapped the human mind and found a strategic balance between accessible communication and space design. The result was an extraordinary visual design system that transcended cultural boundaries in universal expressions.
