Most global organizations who dealt with healthcare had to step up to the need of circulating rapidly changing information across the globe. Partnership for Maternal and Neonatal Health (PMNCH), a body under the United Nations reached out to us to develop a social media system for sending these messages across quickly.
In 2018, we worked with PMNCH for the Partner’s Forum event in New Delhi, India. The theme of cross-sectoral partnership was brought forward in the embroidered identity by involving Pipli craft workers from Odisha. Sticking to the quick deadlines, we refurbished these Pipli illustrations, which were eye-catching, humane and worked in cohesion with the colours for sustainable development goals.
Three principles we kept in mind during the system design were:
1. Strategy
With the clutter of information present in the space about the coronavirus, it was important to strategize consistency and distinction for the information which came from an authentic source. We created a bookmarking system which helped clear the context on the first slide and was easy to change as per the target group.
For Ex:
COVID-19//PREGNANCY
COVID-19//ADOLOSCENTS
COVID-19//HEALTH WORKERS
Once the audience became a little familiar with the tagging, we reduced the covid-19 tag to a smaller size on top.

2. Authenticity
Most information majorly focused on prevention steps and effects of the pandemic on Women, Children and Adolescents. These were serious people-related issues which needed maximum attention. With simple humanistic illustrations and icons, we conveyed the message with authenticity.
3. Tone & Consistency
The challenge was to maintain the seriousness of the matter while keeping it distinctive enough for people to spot and share. We classified the posts into three categories of colour palettes according to the nature of the information.
Owning to the New world, the system was developed overnight to cater to this quick communication and is slowly adapting itself according to the rapidly changing information on healthcare and prevention.
We have dedicated more than two decades understanding human needs and emotions to build humanistic and transformative systems. Contact A.mukherjee at nb@lopezdesign.com for any new enquiries.
