SPACE BRANDING + ACTIVATION
Our environment branding for Mercer’s offices in Noida and GOSS Aravallis brought the organization’s ethos alive in the workspace through visual narratives and universal themes inspired by nature. The immersive work environments we designed drew people to experience Mercer’s rich and multi-layered corporate philosophy.
Why did the Mercer offices need a new aesthetic?
Mercer is a globally recognized leader in consulting for talent, health, retirement, and investment. The Asset Management company wanted us to create enduring themes and environment graphics rendering their brand values as tangible brand experiences for their staff, clients, and visitors.
How did we reimagine the Noida office space?
The Mercer Tree
Our award-winning design for Mercer’s Noida office was inspired by ‘the tree of life’ - where every part of the tree was illustrated to showcase brand values. The roots reflected the ‘Tree of Value’, the trunk was the ‘Tree of Talent’, the branches became the ‘Tree of Expertise’, and the fruits showed the ‘Tree of Success’. A multitude of stories was illustrated through mini graphics that populated the various parts of the tree.
On the macro-level, the narratives expand on each part of the tree showing a larger picture of nature, while at the micro-level, countless stories were rendered as tiny graphics in context to the theme.
The Value Wall
We interpreted five classic parables with morals on multi-panel etched-glass - ‘The Thirsty Crow,’ ‘The Ant and The Grasshopper’, ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’, ‘The Lion and the Mouse’, and ‘The Boy who cried Wolf’.
A world without boundaries
We showcased Mercer’s global reach, depicting illustrations on a cafeteria wall, inspired by cultures, festivals, music, cinema, and art from 42 different counties across the globe, which proved to be a popular conversation starter.
Coffee in Istanbul or Old London?
We designed the breakout areas of the Mercer offices, for which we chose two Mercer destinations on the coffee route, namely Istanbul and London. This refreshing concept for the breakout areas embellished with miniature comic-style details gave the Mercer employees a feeling of getting a break, away from their work environment.
A vantage point across corridors
The graphics in the passages dynamically engage with users through anamorphic effects that use the technique of projection mapping. Three-dimensional artworks painted across multiple surfaces appear as flat pictures at specific viewpoints where the image can be seen without distortion. These graphics transform the corridors into immersive and experiential spaces.
Office entrances with a character
Mercer’s people, its most vital asset, are celebrated throughout the design. The notion that every individual is unique but people come together to create a spectacular picture, forms the essence of the environment branding design. This multifaceted image of Mercer is depicted through two installations at the entrances of both levels of the offices.
A two-dimensional tessellating pattern of almost a thousand triangular pieces of Dholpur stone of different sizes is created across a wall thirty feet long, eight feet high. The other installation, on a wall of similar size, is a multifaceted three-dimensional surface of pyramids and troughs made with veneer on a wooden backdrop.
Building blocks at the gym
The physical attributes of working out and staying fit are visualized in The Fitting Stretch, the gym at Mercer.
Our time-tested themes reach out directly, ensuring the longevity of the design. The successful blend of visual design, planning, and storytelling, which was produced at superior quality, won us a CII Design Excellence Award in Environment Graphics in 2014.
GOSS Aravallis Office
‘Be water my friend’ — Bruce Lee
Situated in the backdrop of the low-lying Aravallis, the GOSS Aravallis office of Mercer is surrounded by a lush bio-diversity park. Inspired by Bruce Lee, one of the greatest martial artists of all time, we used the metaphor of “to be like water” as to be “formless” and not to be trapped by mindsets or perspectives. The free-flowing nature of water became the inspiration for conceptualizing Mercer’s workspace.
Water’s Power To Transform
We carried forward this narrative of water - flow, adaptability, and responsiveness across the graphic theme.
Besides its fluid nature, water also takes many forms, from vapor and fluid to snow and ice, and adapts to streams, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, and the ocean. This gave rise to the theme of Making Waves through 16 large super-graphics across Mercer’s floors. Numerous quotes and stories were illustrated from Gandhi to Edison and Mandela to Malala Yousafzai.
The fluidity of water also inspired the blackboard at Mercer’s gym and sports room.
